Does going to Ryerson University lower my chances of getting into Medical School?

January 5th, 2009 by admin

I'm graduating this year from High school and want to become a doctor. Is it a good decision to go into the biology program at Ryerson and then apply for medical school after completing my bachelor's degree???
And lets say i complete my degree with a good average, Does going to Ryerson University lower my chances of getting into medical school???

Nope. Any doubts about the quality of your education are proven or disproven by your MCAT score, and the average MCAT score of your peers coming from your university. Each med school has experts that focus on certain schools throughout the coutnry.

I want to know what is the best strategy to get into Medical school?

I want to know what is the best strategy to get into Medical school

Thank you

1. Pick an EASY major that is not full of pre-meds. This means don't major in biology or pre-med (which is a STUPID major anyway — wtf do you do with that degree if you don't go to med school?).

2. Do well in your major, but save your real energy and brain power for the med school pre-reqs. These include:
1 year general chemistry w/lab
1 year organic chemistry w/lab
1 year physics w/lab
1 year calculus
1 year biology w/lab
1 year English
Recommended coursework includes: statistics, economics, computer science, psychology, philosophy/ethics

3. Do lots of extracurriculars. Volunteer in a hospital or clinic, do a medical mission through a church, work with underpriveleged kids. Do something that would make Mother Teresa look like a selfish jerk.

4. Take an MCAT class. I used Princeton Review. Do NOT take the MCAT until you are absolutely ready to apply. That test is painful, and its score is only valid for about 2 years (lesser schools accept 3-year-old scores).

How to get into Medical School?

December 30th, 2008 by admin

What classes/majors in college will help or make me able to go to Medical School, I really want to become a dermatologist because I have really bad scars on my skin, and I want to be able to make my patients feel better about their skin and over all health.

Are there any sort of programs I need to do in college to get into Med School?

Here's a web site that should answer most of your questions about the process of becoming a physician. It's written by a physician and I've found most of his opinions are accurate: http://people.howstuffworks.com/becoming-a-doctor.htm

I Want To Be A Psychiatrist. What Are The Steps For Me To Take To Get Into Medical School?

December 27th, 2008 by admin

I want to go to medical school for psychiatry. I am in undergraduate now. What are the necessary steps to take to get into med-school? I want to focus more on the neurological side of psychiatry. Should I double major in psychiatry AND neuroscience (which is a sub-major in Psychology at Indiana University). Any help is greatly appreciated!

I wouldn't bother double majoring, I'd rather focus on extra-curriculars. You need to take the pre-reqs for medical school. You need to volunteer in medical school and in the community. You also need to shadow some doctors. Anything that can make you a unique candidate. You need to take your MCAT your junior year or so.
