Medical Transcription/Coding/Billing Schools!!!?

January 13th, 2009 by admin

I am considering taking classes/distance learning (online) for Medical Transcription and/or Medical Coding & Billing. If you have suggestions and advice on not only those fields, but on legitimate, reputable schools for this type of training, I’d sure appreciate your input.

I have extensive experience in criminal transcription (investigative interviews) and think I’d be good at the Medical Transcription.

I’m thinking about going through Tallahassee Community College for the classes, which can be done online. There is also Penn Foster Career School but I don’t want to waste my time/money.

Any input? Thank you in advance for taking the time to help!!

For medical transcription courses, check out AHDI's (The Association for Healthcare Documentation Integrity) site. They have a list of schools they recommend. Many of the transcription companies will test a new graduate from one of these schools for an entry level position and waive the 2-5 years experience needed. Also, most of these schools (if not all) will help with job placement. It is very important to take your training through a reputable school. Congratulations for doing the research and asking the right questions! You are definitely on the right track to this challenging and rewarding career.

do I need a G E D to go to medical billing school?

January 9th, 2009 by admin

You probably do, but please note that there are not supposed to be too many jobs for the medical biller (or coder or medical assistant) despite what those private $$ schools proclaim :) My cousin just unfortunately got laid off from her medical billing job of five years.

If still wanting the training, please consider the more affordable county vo-tech school or community college (perhaps non-credit course) as long as it’s accredited within the industry.

Here is a website with a forum where people are leaving messages about having a tough time finding billing jobs: http://www.indeed.com and can click ‘forums’ and search ‘medical billing’ or ‘medical billers’ or such.

Medical billing and coder job at home?

January 7th, 2009 by admin

I just got out of medical billing and coding school. I want to start my own home business doing medical billing and coding from home, Does anyone know how do I get statred? What do i Need to start please let me know.

Before you spend anymore money, you may want to check into the feasibility of doctor's giving patient info over to an inexperienced, fresh from school, person they don't know.

You may have to take a job in a doctor's office first to build up experience and trust before you can work out of your home.

where are the pretests for medical billing and coding?

January 3rd, 2009 by admin

I am going to start school for medical billing and coding and would like some information on pretseting

Hi, you really don't need to pre-test for school : ) School should teach you all you need to know. If you are interested in starting to learn before school starts, you may want to get an Anatomy for Dummies book, and/or medical terminology text or flash cards. If you mean that you want to get some self-study materials w/ practices tests for the AHIMA exams, you could go on Amazon.com and find those. : ) I hope this helps. Good luck w/ your training!

Has anyone done medical billing and coding course through Allied Medical School? ?

January 1st, 2009 by admin

I am getting ready to start this online course and would like to know if anyone has had success going thru this program and getting a good job afterward. Also I would like to know if Allied is certified thru AHIMA and or AAPC? Any help or suggestions would be great! Thanks!

I didn’t try AMS, BUT i used US Career Institute for medical coding and claims specialist (same thing) online. I am still in it. Almost finished. I talked to a private doctor’s office and they said u.s.c.i’s certification meets their criteria. So, when Im finished I can work there. When you received your school information, you should have received all of the school’s certifications. They should have sent it the mail. You can always email your school or phone them and ask if they are.
