top tier medical schools for clinical medicine?

January 13th, 2009 by admin

Harvard, Washington U in STL, Johns Hopkins, and Upenn are well known for their great researchers. What are some top tier med schools that are known for clinical medicine?

If you look at US News and World report they have a primary care ranking as well, which will give you a good measure of clinical skills. Another good thing to look at (I just went through residency match and this helped me) is the volume of the hospital associated with the med school. Places with more volume are going to provide you with more exposure to different diseases and patients as well as good clinicians. Whether that translates into good clinical teachers is another discussion, and I don't think anything really measures that.

Are the majority of the nations that have the world's top schools and top medical systems "socialist"?

January 11th, 2009 by admin

"socialist" as in what Republicans call socialist… most of Europe and anything that has public schools and public healthcare?

that's the thing I don't get… if their ideas work so well, wouldn't all the top ones (out of say the top 20) be mostly capitalistic (as in non-public)?

Simply put, yes. The US still has most of the best universities and medical centers, though, if you can afford them…
